Con-Line BBS

Con-Line BBS, the online bulletin board in My Summer Car which can be used to download computer games

This is a guide on how to download computer games from the internet on the Mikropekka computer.

Computer

The Mikropekka Turbo X33

The computer must be bought through the advertisment in the mailbox at the player's home. The computer comes pre-installed with 2 pieces of software, being TeleBBS and Pieno. By connecting to the internet more games can be downloaded to play.

As the game is set on 1995, internet is primitive and must be connected by using a dial-up system. The dial-up internet works by communicating with other computers through the telephone lines. Because the computers are "talking" to eachother this counts as phone minutes on the phone bill.

Connecting to the internet[]

Connecting to the internet is quite straight forward. Once the computer is started you will need to make sure it is plugged into the telephone socket near the phone. Note: This is not required to be plugged in for the computer to function and is only needed to connect to the internet.

Once the computer is on and connected, type telebbs into the command line. The computer will load the program and you will be brough to a new page. There are commands at the bottom of the page which can be entered into the command line:

  • exit will bring you back to the previous page.
  • mode baud chooses the "internet speed" for you. The default, 300 baud (0.000.3 mbps) is slow even by 1995 standards, if you want the fastest speed possible, 9600 baud (0.0096 mbps), type mode baud=9600, then hit enter. Note: The speed cannot be changed once you have dialed the Con-Line BBS.
  • atdt 938****** (the last six digits are random for each save file. The number that must be dialed can be found written on a note located on the floor of the vacant shop's backroom next to the inspection shop) to dial the Con-Line BBS (which can be used to download games) and bring you to a new page.

Downloading games[]

When connected to the BBS system, you can download new games by typing /F. A number of games will appear, with their size next to them. Once you are on this page, you can choose a game to download.

To download a game, type /load game.exe c: and swap "game" with the game of your choice from the list.

This will immediately start the game download. In the top right corner there will be a download status, telling you how much of the game has been downloaded.

If you save and reload the game, unplug the phone socket, or electricity/phone service goes out (if you haven't paid the bills) while it's downloading, the computer turns off, which means that you will have to restart the download.

Downloading the largest game (rally95) at 9600 baud will take roughly 3 hours of real time.

Playing games[]

To list all files in the computer directory, use dir. You can type c: or a: to change between the main (C) drive or the floppy (A) drive. Downloaded games cannot be deleted.

Simply type the name of a game (exactly as it is shown in the directory) that you have downloaded and want to play.
