The electricity meter (: Sähkömittari) can be found on the wall inside the front entrance space at home. The meter is used to monitor electricity usage in kilowatt hours (kWh). The player will receive an electrical power bill in the mail every week, which must be paid at the mail box, near the entrance to Kesselinperä. Not paying the bill for an extended period of time will result in the electricity being cut off completely until the bill is paid.
There are several things that, when turned on, increase electrical power consumption in the house:
- Sauna
- TV
- House lights
- Garage light
- Battery charger
- Stove
- Refrigerator (can only be turned off by removing the kitchen fuse)
- Computer
Trivia[]
- The 32-character long word vaihtovirtakilowattituntimittari is one of the longest compound words in Finnish that could be used in everyday language.
- The text on the plaque reads: "Alternating current (AC) kilowatt-hour meter, 1 kWh = 1200 rotor rotations. 220 V, 10 (20) A, 50 cycles/second. Model Y5, serial (unintelligible)". The Finnish electric grid used to be 220 V, but it was changed to the more common European 230 V standard during the period of 1988–1995. This did not require changes in any gear or appliances; it's entirely possible that the meter was installed in the building decades ago.
