Rally Sprint Race

An average attempt at the Suvi-Sprint.

Peräjärven Suvi-Sprint, often simply known as the rally (Peräjärvi Summer-Sprint) is the Rally Sprint race that the player can join every Saturday between 10:00 and 18:00. The Saturday portion is the first stage of the rally, which takes the player from the end of Peräjärventie near the school in Peräjärvi, all the way to the end of Loppentie near the strawberry field in Rykipohja (9.2 kilometers). The second stage is the same route but in reverse, starting in Rykipohja and ending in Peräjärvi.

After signing the registration form in front of Fleetari at the organizer tent in Peräjärvi and paying the initial 500 mk fee for the Junior Cup. The player will need to get in their car and drive it to the starting spot. A unique numbered sticker will appear temporarily on the car doors which is your number for the race.

The player can advance to the Amateur Cup after racing in the Junior Cup a few times, two 1st place podiums will advance the player to Amateur Cup quickly, but other podium places will eventually earn a spot in the higher ranked race. The prize pool is different for the Junior and Amateur Cup, as well as the entry fee.

Cup Entry fee Prize pool 1st place prize Requirements
Junior 500 mk 5,250 mk 2,500 mk None
Amateur 1,000 mk 16,000 mk 8,000 mk Two 1st place podiums in Junior cup, or equivalent points

Satsuma requirements[]

To be able to take part, the Satsuma must have the following modifications to be rally legal:

The player must be wearing the helmet when signing up, though after the rally starts this may be removed for better visibility and better chance of dying instantly. Additionally, the player must also not be drunk whilst signing up.

Rally basics[]

Rally Sprint Race - First stage start

The first stage starting area in Peräjärvi.

After paying the entry fee and driving to the starting point, wait for the "Get ready..." text to turn into a countdown and start rolling forward just before it hits 0; this is done to prevent wheelspin from a standing start. Driving past the two red signs before the countdown finishes will add a two minute penalty to the player's time.

The course takes the player from Peräjärvi all the way to the strawberry field in Rykipohja via the local dirt roads. The route must be followed to receive the result at the end. Using the railroad tracks as a shortcut will cause the player to not be able to finish at the end. The race ends once the red signs have been passed and a text appears at the top of the screen saying "Finish!". The first stage result form can be found in the tent in the Parc fermé area. It lists the top 19 times for the first stage.

After the first stage has been finished, drive back to Peräjärvi using the highway by turning right at the end of Rykipohjantie, and drive to the Parc fermé area (the schoolyard). Park the car and leave it in the yard overnight, and come back on Sunday between 10:00 and 18:00. Start the car and drive it all the way back to Rykipohja, this is the starting point for the second stage.

Fleetari should be sitting in the rally result tent; use the registration form to sign up for the second stage. The second stage is the same route as the first stage, but in reverse. Drive to the starting point once again, do another rolling start, and race the car back to Peräjärvi.

The rally results form can be found in a tent inside the Parc fermé area, it will list the total time of both stages for the top 15 drivers. The weekly sprint races are now over, and the player must wait another week before participating again.

Prizes[]

Trophies

The three amateur trophies and their differing sizes.

Main article: Trophies

The player will be awarded with a trophy if they finished in first, second, or third place, as well as some prize money. The Junior and Amateur Cups have different prize pools.

Penalties[]

Certain actions will result in getting time penalties added to the player's total rally time for SS1 and SS2.

Penalty Cost Description
Late to parc fermé 60s Arrive late to the parc fermé between SS1 and SS2 of the rally.
Late to start of second stage 60s Arrive late to the start of second stage after leaving parc fermé.
Jump start 120s Cross the starting line before the countdown.

Opponents[]

Your racing opponents are never shown in the game (the Rally cars driving on the track are professional drivers, competing in an entirely different league to you). Each opponent's racing time will be randomly generated according to the following table:

Cup SS1 time SS2 time
Junior 5:55 - 8:10 6:25 - 7:00
Amateur 5:25 - 7:40 5:55 - 6:30

Parts dealer[]

Salesman

Used parts salesman

The used car parts dealer will appear at the Parc fermé next to the school. Similar to Leif at his repair shop, the dealer will provide car parts to replace some heavily worn or broken parts for the Satsuma. However, the parts he provides are generally already worn between 50% to 10% of their condition (lower being worse). Use this as a last resort to get parts for your engine.

Like Leif, the parts needing replacement must first be removed from the Satsuma, then the replacement part will appear on the tarpaulin to be bought, next to the hooded trailer.

Achievements[]

There are six Steam achievements that can be obtained by finishing the rally in different ways.

Achievement Requirement
Kiddy Champ Finish the Junior Cup in first place.
Flying Finn Finish the Amateur Cup in first place.
First loser Finish the Amateur Cup in second place.
Sliding Swede Finish the Amateur Cup in third place.
Finnish sisu! Finish the rally with at least one missing wheel and its suspension.
Hannes Kolehmainen Finish the rally on foot.
Note: Only the "Finnish sisu!" achievement can be obtained in non-permadeath mode.

Tips[]

Rally sprint supervisor

Rally supervisor here to give you some tips

  • Some jumps and bumps on the road can seriously damage the Satsuma. Since the player doesn't have a co-driver with pace notes, the track can be filled with items that stay permanently on the roadside, like coolant bottles, beer cases, etc.
  • Even though the roads are closed for traffic, the train will still go back and forth on the railroad tracks, possibly forcing the player to stop or causing the player to die.
  • It might be a good idea to do multiple practice runs to get to know the roads a bit better before the rally. A good idea for the practice runs is to strip off body parts like the hood, doors, fenders etc. to avoid peeling them off or straight out losing them on the road. Note that there is disagreement among players as to whether doing this affects the car's stability. Keep in mind that, while making practice runs, Pena will roam the roads in the green car, he will not be present during the rally.
  • It's probably a good idea to use a controller or a steering wheel during the rally instead of a keyboard, unless you're very good at racing with one. Using either a wheel or a controller will give most players an edge over their normal (keyboard) performance, allowing them to increase their average speed and giving them better steering on turns, giving them a better overall drive pace and rally result.
  • To achieve better times, tune the gear ratio towards top speed, this will allow you to stay in 3rd gear for longer, minimizing time lost during gear shifts.
  • You will be able to go faster by using the racing line at the square turns, instead of using the handbrake.
  • It's highly recommended to take a spanner set (or even better, a ratchet set) and/or a digging bar with you so you can make quick repairs at the Parc fermé between stages and utilize the used car parts dealer's services.
    • However, keep in mind that those fixes aren't going to last for much longer than the end of the second stage - if you decide to do them, it's probably a good idea to give the car a proper repair job at Fleetari's as soon as you're done rallying.
  • It's also recommended to top up all of the car's fluids (brake fluid, fuel, coolant), replace the spark plugs, and get a new oil filter before you attempt rallying. It might seem overkill, but remember - you need your car to be performing the best it can.

Trivia[]

  • Spectators will try to warn other drivers if a rally car flips/crashes on the track.
  • Finishing the rally in first place will reduce the player's stress once they get close enough to the Parc fermé tent.
  • Winning the amateur cup of rally will cause Leif to call the player later in the evening, congratulating them and proclaiming that the player is a tough guy, very courageous.
  • The rally used to comprise only one stage, starting from Rykipohja and ending in Peräjärvi. This was changed in the 23 February 2018 update.
  • Update:20.08.2019 brought nine other Rally cars that run the sprint during 10:00 to 18:00. These cars can be seen on the course during Saturday and Sunday. Care must be taken when traveling on the dirt roads because they might hit and kill you.
  • Pena will not despawn if you loaded your game before the starting hours of the rally. Instead, he will continue driving like normal, and get killed by the rally cars.
  • The rally has been confirmed to return in My Winter Car by Toplessgun.
